Invisalign London is a relatively new treatment option for correcting and straightening the teeth. It uses a different method of straightening the teeth which involves a series of custom-made aligners that fit the patient’s teeth perfectly. The aligners are trays made of smooth BPA-free plastic. The aligners straighten the teeth by gradually moving them into the right position based on the treatment plan the dentist designs.
Invisalign bypasses the need to deal with metal brackets and wires that are painful and cause sores. With Invisalign, you simply wear each tray for about two weeks then change them into a new set until your teeth are realigned.
What makes Invisalign better than braces?
Asides from avoiding metal brackets and tightening wires, Invisalign offers the following.
- Comfort
Invisalign uses smooth and comfortable plastic aligners, so there will be no metal to irritate your mouth, and brackets to cause injuries in your mouth.
- Discreet treatment
Invisalign aligners are virtually invisible — this means that you can discreetly straighten your teeth and feel comfortable to smile at any time without feeling self-conscious during your treatment. There is also minimal interruption with your lifestyle as you can go where ever you want to, attend any special event without feeling embarrassed by your invisible braces.
- Removable
Invisalign trays are removable, unlike metal braces that are permanently fixed to your teeth throughout your treatment. Cleaning your teeth is also easier as you can remove your aligners to brush and floss normally.
- Freedom
You are free to eat and take any drink you like as long as you remove your aligners first. Other braces come with a lot of eating restrictions, and even without restrictions, eating with your braces on may be difficult. So, with Invisalign, you have the freedom to live your normal lifestyle as it does not interfere with your day-to-day activities.
- Maintenance
Maintaining your Invisalign aligners is simple. By simply brushing and rinsing them afterward in lukewarm water which is the normal Invisalign cleaning system, your aligners would remain in good condition but with braces, brushing the brackets and wires cannot clean them.
Is Invisalign treatment faster than braces?
Duration of treatment depends on the patient’s needs, but generally, Invisalign treatment is faster than braces. With braces, you have them on at all times, and the treatment would last as long as two years, but Invisalign requires you to wear them for 22 – 24 hours daily, and treatment would last between 6 – 18 months.
Follow-up visits and treatment
Treatment with braces requires you to visit your orthodontist monthly, but with Invisalign, you can change your aligners every two weeks, and your visit to the orthodontist will be every 4 – 6 weeks.
After treatment with either Invisalign or braces, you will need a positioner or retainer to prevent your teeth from moving back to their former position. The retainer may need to be worn at night, but your orthodontist will advise you on how to wear your retainers.
